JOIN THE JOURNEY!Minimize

THIS YEAR’S LENTEN JOURNEY IS ABOUT YOUR FREEDOM*
THE JOURNEY HAS BEGUN!

WEEK 1: we began to explore our freedom in Christ. What does freedom really feel like? We thought about flying as a metaphor for freedom. And we heard Jesus say, “The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,” (Luke 4:18). In our Guides and Small Group discussions we began to think, talk, and pray about ways in which we might not be as free as we thought we were.

Week 2: we discovered that our freedom as Christians comes with strings attached. Using the example of a kite that can only soar if it is tethered to the person flying it, we learned that true freedom exists in the context of our relationships with God and with one another. Jesus said, “If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36). In our Guide and Small Groups we explored the ways in which beliefs from our past might be hurting our chances of enjoying the freedom that Christ has earned for us and continually offers to us.

Week 3: we will talk about some of the ways in which the world battles against our freedom in Christ. We hear the example of how even Jesus was subject to the devil’s temptation to abandon his freedom. Our Guide will offer some concrete ways to fight back against these attacks on our Christian freedom.
