Parish Visitor Team

MISSION

The main mission of the Parish Visitor program is to maintain a warm, loving connection with those members who due to age or infirmity are no longer able to make it to church on a regular basis. Acting on behalf of the congregation, Parish Visitors conduct monthly visits and weekly phone calls with homebound members to bring “the light touch of Christian friendship” to them and to assure them of God’s love and the congregation’s on-going concern for their well-being.

Each of us has a deep need for being validated, for knowing that our lives matter, for “telling our story”. This is something that Parish Visitors understand and so, above all, they seek to bring the gift of listening to these relationships to meet that need. It is in this way that they manifest God’s love for their homebound “visitee”.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE A PARISH VISITOR?
If you are homebound or simply have need of a friendly face from time to time, please call Pastor Pat at 513.891.1700, x111 and let her know!

SCOPE
The scope of the Parish Visitor program includes these things:

• Visit and share a “caring spirit” (listen, support, encourage, befriend, facilitate and advocate for) with home-bound/lonely members at least monthly and contact them via phone at least weekly

• Identify the needs of the member for church or community services and report them to the Team Leader.

• Provide communion as requested.

• Pray with the member /share scripture readings as appropriate.

• Bring church bulletins, CDs/online access of the most recent sermon, copies of The Shepherd's Horn, etc.

SUPPORT & ACCOUNTABILITY
Training is provided for new Parish Visitors and the Parish Visitor Team meets   from time to time to share insights and build a sense of community amongst those who are carrying out this important ministry.

By way of accountability, Parish Visitors are duty bound to maintain a regular schedule of visits and phone calls, provide required reports to the Team Leader on the status of the relationship and the visiting schedule, and maintain confidentiality with regard to any personal matters that a “visitee” might desire or expect.
LEADERSHIP
Erika Thiele is the leader of the Parish Visitor Team.  She works hand in glove with Pastor Pat to maintain the program’s vitality and integrity.  Both of them are committed to working closely with Team Members to deal with any issues or problems that may arise.
CALL TO SERVE
Please contact Pastor Pat (513.891.1700, ext. 111) or Erika Thiele to volunteer for this ministry.

We know that acting out their Christian faith by participating in this ministry brings a sense of fulfillment to each of our Parish Visitors!

They would agree that it is good to know that one is bringing joy to others and acting on the call to service found in Galatians 6:2: “Bear one another’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
