Heidi Johns For Everyone Born I Corinthians 11:23-25 23 For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body that is for[a] you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” A couple of weeks ago I preached a sermon on how we are all welcome at God’s table in holy communion. The bread and wine are not a reward we receive for good behavior or even something we must earn. The meal comes as pure gift and promise. A reminder that we are fed and forgiven, a part of the body of Christ, anchored in a community of Saints that reaches beyond place and time, because Jesus invites us. There is room for everyone. At the retirement party for Debbie Jones last week we heard a song entitled “For Everyone Born” that was performed by Good Shepherd’s own, Ken Holdt, Olivia Barnaclo and Bryce Kessler. It was beautiful and moving and a deep reminder of the power of God’s love to transform us at the table. The song begins with the phrase, “For everyone born, a place at the table.” The ongoing refrain is, “God will delight when we are creators of Justice. Justice and joy.” Here is the link to the song. I hope that it will wash over you in waves of Grace and anchor you in your place of belonging at God’s table.
