Devotionals

Devotionals are short essays written by GSLC members and staff that explore the ways the Holy Spirit works within our every day lives.  There are several ways we invite you to use these devotionals:

  • Make them a part of a prayer practice - read a devotion and consider the ways that Christ has worked similarly in your life or works in unexpected ways.
  • Make them a part of a journaling practice - read a devotion and journal about what the Holy Spirit is stirring in you as you reflect on the essay.
  • Use them as a reminder that God works in all things, the bad and the good.

With over 400 available devotions, you can use these daily, weekly, or monthly.  It's up to you!  We just hope that by reading these inspiring stories provided by Good Shepherd's flock you are able to better see where Jesus is present in all things!  Thank you to all of our members that have provided devotionals throughout the past couple of years!

The Last Good Shepherd Daily Devotions until Advent

As we prepare to take a break from our Good Shepherd Daily Devotions until Advent, I hope you will continue your habit of sitting with God each day through inspirational reading. Today I want to provide you with some online options for continuing to grow in faith each day.

The first is a resource we shared yesterday from the United Church Of Christ.   Their devotion is entitled, “God Is Still Speaking.”   This is a powerful reminder that God is involved in our lives and longing to direct us in the way to go.   Our main task is to learn to listen for what God is saying.   It is true that God speaks through such things as daily devotions!

You can find the “God Is Still Speaking” Daily Devotion here:

Another resource comes from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota called “God Pause”.  The name indicates what it is, an opportunity to pause our lives each day to focus on God’s presence.   I shared an example of their devotion on Friday last week.    These devotions are written by Alumni of the Seminary who are serving throughout the US and around the world! They are grounded in scripture verses and/or hymn lyrics.  Each daily pause gives you something to chew on throughout the day, and reminds you of God’s constant presence with you.

You can find the link to the “God Pause” devotion here:

If you want your devotion to be focused on reading Scripture, then I recommend the Daily Texts, sent out by the Moravian Church.  Each day will invite you into several scriptures passages that are linked for your easy reference on your device.  You can check is out here:

If you would prefer an actual book of daily devotions that you can hold in your hand, you can check out these Lutheran publications.   Good Shepherd does offer a limited supply of these in our lobby each quarter which are available on a first come, first served basis.  You can order your own subscription here:

No matter what resource you use, please continue to find time to sit with God each day.  If you need ideas on how to best do this, talking with one of the Pastors.   See you in Advent!
