Devotionals

Devotionals are short essays written by GSLC members and staff that explore the ways the Holy Spirit works within our every day lives.  There are several ways we invite you to use these devotionals:

  • Make them a part of a prayer practice - read a devotion and consider the ways that Christ has worked similarly in your life or works in unexpected ways.
  • Make them a part of a journaling practice - read a devotion and journal about what the Holy Spirit is stirring in you as you reflect on the essay.
  • Use them as a reminder that God works in all things, the bad and the good.

With over 400 available devotions, you can use these daily, weekly, or monthly.  It's up to you!  We just hope that by reading these inspiring stories provided by Good Shepherd's flock you are able to better see where Jesus is present in all things!  Thank you to all of our members that have provided devotionals throughout the past couple of years!

Daily Devotion

As we kick off our month long theme of Joyful Generosity here is a story shared by the Casey family regarding what they did when they received a check on God’s Grace Your Hands Sunday last September:

When we received our check from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, we were not sure what we would do with it. Then we remembered how impactful the experience was for both our children who were members of the University of Cincinnati Bearcat Bands throughout their undergraduate time at UC. We contacted the band director and learned they have an active instrument fund campaign. We thought that was perfect because we could give our check to a cause that would allow a student to enjoy the same band experience our children had by using a school loaned instrument where they cannot afford an instrument of their own. We matched the amount of the check given to us by the church and thank Good Shepherd for providing this impetus for us to give to a cause we would not have otherwise known about.

Psalm 150:1-5

Praise the Lord.[a]

Praise God in his sanctuary;
    praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his acts of power;
    praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
    praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with timbrel and dancing,
    praise him with the strings and pipe,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
    praise him with resounding cymbals.

Reflection Questions:

What role does music play in your faith?   What hymns are you missing the most these days?  How might you share the gift of music with someone today?

Wow - you hit the jackpot! I just love that Psalm! Music is the message God sends for the soul to connect with Him. The hymns praise His word and lift us up to touch His spirit. Music helps us to reflect when we pray and gives us hope and joy to celebrate His presence., I MISS IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will spread the joy of music today - Have to think on it first!
