Daily Devotions

Hello Good Shepherd!

During the first two weeks in June, our Daily Devotions will be lifting up stories from our God’s Grace Your Hands event held on September 8, 2019.  On that day we gave every household in attendance at worship a check for either $100, $250 or $500, sealed in an envelope.  The “Pay To The Order Of” line on the check was left blank so the recipients could gift the check to whomever they would like.   Our instructions were simple, “Go and share God’s blessings with the world.”  Here are just a few of the stories of what folks did with the check they received, may the stir up your own desire to find Joy in Generosity.

Peace,

Pastor Heidi Johns

Daily Devotion

As we continue our month long theme of Joyful Generosity here is a “thank you” received from the East End Adult Education Center after they received a God’s Grace Your Hands check from GSLC member David Schackman.

Today we received our donation from your parishioner, David Schackmann. He has been a longtime volunteer--over 20 years! He believes in our mission to help educate individuals, and volunteers weekly in our tutoring program.

Here is a little bit about what EEAEC does. Last school year we served 191 individuals-- 76 in the educational program, with 25 who graduated with a GED, and 115 in the computer lab for testing, college refresher, job and college search, and application writing.

Our mission, as a government approved charitable organization, is to provide quality educational programs for the residents of the Greater Cincinnati area, aimed at increasing students' basic literacy, academic, computer, and job skills. We turn no serious student away and our services are free. Programs Offered: GED Instruction with one-on-one and group instruction On-site GED Testing for the Official GED College Preparation and Counseling Tutoring for Current College Students Job and Career Counseling Computer Instruction.

John 14:16 Jesus said, “if you love me, you will keep my commandments.  I will ask the Father and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.”

The Advocate Jesus is talking about is the Holy Spirit.  The translation of Advocate can be, “one who walks alongside another.”  How might the role of Tutors be seen as the work of the Advocate? “Walking alongside others” is indeed holy work.  Is there someone you can walk alongside today?  what would that look like?
