Devotionals

Devotionals are short essays written by GSLC members and staff that explore the ways the Holy Spirit works within our every day lives.  There are several ways we invite you to use these devotionals:

  • Make them a part of a prayer practice - read a devotion and consider the ways that Christ has worked similarly in your life or works in unexpected ways.
  • Make them a part of a journaling practice - read a devotion and journal about what the Holy Spirit is stirring in you as you reflect on the essay.
  • Use them as a reminder that God works in all things, the bad and the good.

With over 400 available devotions, you can use these daily, weekly, or monthly.  It's up to you!  We just hope that by reading these inspiring stories provided by Good Shepherd's flock you are able to better see where Jesus is present in all things!  Thank you to all of our members that have provided devotionals throughout the past couple of years!

Be Ready for GodExodus 13:3-10

Today is the first day of our Vacation Bible School ministry. Historically the third week of June has been when GSLC has hosted VBS and when I selected this particular week of June 2020 WAAAYY back in summer 2019, I had no idea that our VBS would look so different. I have had the honor of directing VBS at GSLC since 2006, so I thought I knew what to expect. However, the arrival of COVID-19 and our response to it really shook things up for how I would in turn lead VBS this year.

“If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation…” -2 Corinthians 5:17a

Every aspect of VBS, from our format (from in-person to digital) to even our theme (from a Mission to Mars theme to the Shake It Up Cafe theme) changed. As a ministry to others, we had to be ready to respond in new and creative ways to how God was calling us to provide faith formation. The easy thing to do would be to cancel or attempt to post-pone, but God was calling us to shake things up and so we did. We shelved our brand-new, unopened Mission to Mars curriculum and are re-using the Shake It Up Café curriculum that we used in 2011. We are leveraging our digital resources to provide bible stories, puppet shows and music for VBS families. We are putting craft and science supplies in the hands of families so that they can engage in faith-filled activities in their home.

COVID-19 has definitely shaken up VBS and we have had to be ready to pivot in delivering ministry in news ways. The whole VBS planning process has continually reminded me to not only Be Ready for God, but also be ready to respond too!

How can you be ready to respond to God in new ways as we explore different vehicles to stay connected and grow in our faith together?

“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!”  - Psalm 27:14
