Daily Devotions

Welcome to Good Shepherd’s Daily Devotions Page!

During the weeks of Fall, our Daily Devotions are being written by members of Good Shepherd.  Each day one of your brothers or sisters in Christ will be reflecting on faith and life as we all adjust to many changes in our world.  I pray these writings will inspire, comfort and challenge you to grow in faith.  Our dedicated authors have written about their insights, joys and struggles and have been courageous enough to share them with us so that we can also ponder where God is showing up in our own lives.

As a way to encourage the writers and each other I invite you to share a comment in the comment section at the bottom of the page each day.

John 7:1-9

The Right Time

My time has not yet come… v.6

I’ve learned in over 10 years of being married is that just because I want to talk about something or share some frustration, that it may not be the right time to do so. Am I in the right headspace? Is my spouse in the right headspace to hear me? Is it right before leaving for work and there won’t be enough time to process everything  and may ruin the morning? What I want to say or express may have value or need to be said, but it is just not the right time to do so.

Jesus’s brothers want him to travel to Jerusalem with them, thinking that it would be a great time to reveal himself to a wider audience. What Jesus has to stay is necessary and important, but is it the right time?

Discernment is crucial, especially when we have something important to to say or do. This is true not only in committed relationships, but in other areas in our lives as well. Thanks be to God that we have the Holy Spirit to help us discern the right time.

God of wisdom, guide us with discernment to know when to speak or act. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
