Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people… God’s Work, Our Hands. All for nothing! On August 4, 2020 a huge ammonium nitrate explosion in Beirut, Lebanon flattened an entire portion of the city. How very sad! At least 150 people were killed, many hundreds injured and hospitals were full. At least 1 in 4 residents were already refugees from that war-torn part of the world and 300,000 more people were forced from their homes. According to Lutheran World Relief the blast destroyed three (3) forty foot shipping containers that were stored at the port ready for the contents to be distributed. 22,000 LWR Mission quilts, 100 cartons of School Kits, 300 cartons of Personal Care Kits, and 125 cartons of Baby Care Kits were blown up. Lord, why? Why do these kinds of things happen in our world today? Those suffering people needed those quilts to keep warm this winter. How must the many faithful quilters feel who spent hours planning and praying as they worked on those quilts, maybe even some GSLC ladies? With all that’s going on in the world today, we didn’t need another tragedy. Sometimes things just don’t go as planned……....like this year. Maybe there is a reason, though we can’t always see it. How can we learn to trust God with the outcome despite our disappointment? I wonder how many times our plans have changed for a reason we know nothing about. God is in control and we must trust Him no matter what. Who can you encourage today?
