Daily Devotions

Welcome to Good Shepherd’s Daily Devotions Page!

During the weeks of Fall, our Daily Devotions are being written by members of Good Shepherd.  Each day one of your brothers or sisters in Christ will be reflecting on faith and life as we all adjust to many changes in our world.  I pray these writings will inspire, comfort and challenge you to grow in faith.  Our dedicated authors have written about their insights, joys and struggles and have been courageous enough to share them with us so that we can also ponder where God is showing up in our own lives.

As a way to encourage the writers and each other I invite you to share a comment in the comment section at the bottom of the page each day.

Maybe it is because I’m writing this on a particularly busy week, but I have been giving a little more attention to my own need for rest.
You have probably heard this point made before, but before Adam and Eve got to work fulfilling the call to care for the garden and its creatures God decided to kick things off with a rest.
God made all of this thing we call creation, and the first people. God gave them the responsibility to be gardeners, caretakers, stewards of what God had made, and before they were to get started, God said, “Whoa, whoa, whoa! First, we rest. You have a job to do, but you will do that once you have rested.”

I need to hear that these days, when the world keeps spinning even though so many things are slowed down, shut down, postponed, and uncertain. Perhaps I should take the opportunity to rest, reevaluate, and remember that I’m not standing still or waiting.  I’m not on pause, or being delayed, or postponing. I’m resting for the sake of my purpose. I have to rest. I need to rest if I’m going to be what God made me to be. We are made for this.
