Daily Devotions

Hello Good Shepherd!

During the first two weeks in June, our Daily Devotions will be lifting up stories from our God’s Grace Your Hands event held on September 8, 2019.  On that day we gave every household in attendance at worship a check for either $100, $250 or $500, sealed in an envelope.  The “Pay To The Order Of” line on the check was left blank so the recipients could gift the check to whomever they would like.   Our instructions were simple, “Go and share God’s blessings with the world.”  Here are just a few of the stories of what folks did with the check they received, may the stir up your own desire to find Joy in Generosity.

Peace,

Pastor Heidi Johns

Daily Devotion

We continue our devotional theme of Joyful Generosity— our stewardship theme for this year.  If you have not yet turned in your Estimate of Giving Card—please do so THIS WEEK.  Our devotions are stories shared by members of Good Shepherd regarding how they used their God’s Grace Your Hands check last September.

LOOKING AHEAD: next week we will take a break from our Joyful Generosity theme for these devotions and instead focus on teaching about Holy Communion as we prepare to share in the Lord’s Supper from home while worshipping online on Pentecost Sunday, May 31st at 10am.

Today’s story comes from John and Mary Van Osdol

The GSLC 55+ Club has a speaker at its monthly luncheon. At the September luncheon, Mike from the Ronald McDonald House was the speaker. The Ronald McDonald house, feeds and provides support to the families staying there who all have children being treated at Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati. They provide these services at no charge to the families.

When asked, Mike said that the cost to serve dinner to all of the 79 families housed for one day was $400.00. When the God's Grace Your Hands check was given to our members, Mary and I decided that was where we wanted our money to go. On Thursday, October 10, Mary and I drove downtown to visit the "House" and meet with Mike. He showed us around especially the dining area where the families received their meals. We met one of the chefs and many of the volunteers, that day from Xavier University.

We presented Mike with the $250.00 check from church and added a $150.00 check from us to provide the cost of one evening's family meal. What wonderful work and services they provide to these families, who come from around the world, when a member of their family is in a medical crisis.

Mark 5:39-42

39 When he had entered, he said to them, “Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping.” 40 And they laughed at him. Then he put them all outside, and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha cum,” which means, “Little girl, get up!” 42 And immediately the girl got up and began to walk about

Today pray for medical workers and others who help facilitate healing.  When have you known the miraculous power of God’s healing through the gift of modern medicine?
