Daily Devotions

Welcome to Good Shepherd’s Daily Devotions Page!

During the weeks of Fall, our Daily Devotions are being written by members of Good Shepherd.  Each day one of your brothers or sisters in Christ will be reflecting on faith and life as we all adjust to many changes in our world.  I pray these writings will inspire, comfort and challenge you to grow in faith.  Our dedicated authors have written about their insights, joys and struggles and have been courageous enough to share them with us so that we can also ponder where God is showing up in our own lives.

As a way to encourage the writers and each other I invite you to share a comment in the comment section at the bottom of the page each day.

Romans 6:1-11

Splashing in the Font

...so we too may walk in newness of life. (v.4)

I’ve had the privilege to assist with the baptisms of my niece and nephew. They were powerful, Spirit-filled moments. After my nephew’s baptism, something amazing happened. I lifted up his big sister so she could touch the water in the font. She splashed for a bit and I made the sign of the cross with the water on her forehead. And then she, almost three years old, did the same to me! I could feel the presence of God through her wet finger. She then proceeded to mark our family members with a wet cross.

In that moment I wasn’t thinking about death, but the reminder that the two of us are claimed by God and “walk in newness of life.” (v.4) By our baptisms, we both were buried with Christ. Because of this death, we too are able to live in resurrection, that beautiful Sunday morning, today, and in the life to come.

God of resurrection, we thank you for the new life given through your son. Amen.
