Devotionals

Devotionals are short essays written by GSLC members and staff that explore the ways the Holy Spirit works within our every day lives.  There are several ways we invite you to use these devotionals:

  • Make them a part of a prayer practice - read a devotion and consider the ways that Christ has worked similarly in your life or works in unexpected ways.
  • Make them a part of a journaling practice - read a devotion and journal about what the Holy Spirit is stirring in you as you reflect on the essay.
  • Use them as a reminder that God works in all things, the bad and the good.

With over 400 available devotions, you can use these daily, weekly, or monthly.  It's up to you!  We just hope that by reading these inspiring stories provided by Good Shepherd's flock you are able to better see where Jesus is present in all things!  Thank you to all of our members that have provided devotionals throughout the past couple of years!

Daily Devotion

Last night Good Shepherd’s Council members gathered for a virtual meeting. We were each in our own living rooms, and yet we were together as the church. As we gathered, I ask everyone to share something that is particularly challenging for them right now, AND to share where they have seen the Fruit of the Spirit taking hold recently. There is no doubt we are all facing unique challenges in these days, but it was so encouraging to hear our Council members express where they have seen the fruit of the spirit also being revealed. They each gave their testimony of where they have seen the fruit of the spirit alive and active in an encounter they have had in the past few days. It was a beautiful moment.

At our meeting we pondered, “what does it mean to be the church, if we can’t gather in our building?”  Again, I was so encouraged by our leaders. There was no hand wringing or excessive worry. They simply knew, deep in their bones, that the church is not a building. The church is us.The church is the people of God, connected as the Body of Christ. And as the church we will continue to worship God (now in new ways), care for each other, love our neighbor and bring God’s good news into the world. We have great appreciation for our beautiful building, and we love to gather in that holy place, but the church is not only located at 7701 Kenwood Road. The church is wherever you are, right NOW. Because wherever you are is also where God is.

What are you finding particularly challenging right now? Where have you seen the Fruit of the Spirit revealed recently? Let us know in the comment section.

Let us pray: Gracious God, we miss gathering in our church building, but we are privileged to BE the church wherever we are. Help us to be on point with your mission, and to share your good news in whatever ways we can. Amen.

I really enjoyed the sermon from Alex last Sunday. I could hear every word which I sometimes have a problem with in church. I am not very good on a computer either so you won't hear much from me, but thanks for all you do.

Our neighbor called and asked if we needed anything, kindness abounds! Stay well.

Since we are staying put for the next couple of weeks, our son has volunteered to do our grocery shopping. He is even sending pictures of empty shelves to give us the experience! He has arrived with dinner made for the last several days as it helps fill his time, too. True kindness. We are appreciating all the online resources provided. Thank you.

Daily devotions are enjoyable and reassuring. Good to be connected away from the physical building. It is amazing how we can use technology to make this occur. Keep up the good work

I have been doing some long-distance coordinating for a student that I recently acquired. I spoke today with his newly assigned tutor & was amazed to hear she's a special educator who's providing terrific teaching & support for this young man. I feel like she's been sent by God during this challenging time!

So many fruits of the spirit:my daughter leaving her family for a week to care for me during my surgery. The kind ,gentle and patient care from nurses and drs in the hospital, and friends who call, send cards, provide food. I’m very lucky at this time.
