Devotionals are short essays written by GSLC members and staff that explore the ways the Holy Spirit works within our every day lives. There are several ways we invite you to use these devotionals:

Make them a part of a prayer practice - read a devotion and consider the ways that Christ has worked similarly in your life or works in unexpected ways.
Make them a part of a journaling practice - read a devotion and journal about what the Holy Spirit is stirring in you as you reflect on the essay.
Use them as a reminder that God works in all things, the bad and the good.

With over 400 available devotions, you can use these daily, weekly, or monthly. It's up to you! We just hope that by reading these inspiring stories provided by Good Shepherd's flock you are able to better see where Jesus is present in all things! Daily Devotion

Psalm 104

O Lord, what a variety of things you have made!
    In wisdom you have made them all.
    The earth is full of your creatures.
²⁵Here is the ocean, vast and wide,
    teeming with life of every kind,
    both large and small.
²⁶See the ships sailing along,
    and Leviathan,^[^c^] which you made to play in the sea.

Over the last 6 months, as a family, we’ve really used the current situation to explore and experience the beauty of God in nature around us. As we have two very energetic boys, staying in the house is not always the best option. It’s extremely important for us to get the boys out to burn off their infinite supply of energy. If we stay cooped up, things tend to get a little crazy in our house. We’ve really used the time to enjoy nature as a family and explore new parks and outdoor activities that we might not normally do. It always makes me smile to see how wonderous the world is to the boys as they experience and see new things that as an adult, we usually take for granted.

For example, the other week, our boys were playing near a creek, admiring the fossils, tadpoles and of course, just throwing rocks into the water. Just today, we were on another trail and saw a praying mantis walking across the trail. I swear it turned its head and looked at us! I really believe this has made us come closer to appreciate the awe of the world that God has created around us. I try to experience the beauty and enjoy it through my boys’ eyes as things seem to be more vibrant and exciting to a 3 or 6-year-old. So the next time you’re out, try not to take the splendor around you for granted. God has created a wonderful world, and we must not forget that.
