Devotionals

Devotionals are short essays written by GSLC members and staff that explore the ways the Holy Spirit works within our every day lives.  There are several ways we invite you to use these devotionals:

  • Make them a part of a prayer practice - read a devotion and consider the ways that Christ has worked similarly in your life or works in unexpected ways.
  • Make them a part of a journaling practice - read a devotion and journal about what the Holy Spirit is stirring in you as you reflect on the essay.
  • Use them as a reminder that God works in all things, the bad and the good.

With over 400 available devotions, you can use these daily, weekly, or monthly.  It's up to you!  We just hope that by reading these inspiring stories provided by Good Shepherd's flock you are able to better see where Jesus is present in all things!  Thank you to all of our members that have provided devotionals throughout the past couple of years!

Daily Devotion

by Ed Ryba

If I were to look back on ways Good Shepherd has helped me and our family grow as disciples, I would say, in the last decade, having our children has been the single event that has brought us to a more permanent place with God. As transplants to the area, it’s not always easy to find a church that feels right, for many reasons, but you usually just know. When we were looking for churches before our first son was born, we visited several in the area that met our criteria. After attending one service at Good Shepherd, though, we knew right away and started the process to become members.

We’re probably not that unique, having a child and wanting to raise them to have faith in God, we reaffirmed our own faith that we had when we were growing up. In my opinion, having faith is hard in today’s world, while not having faith is easier. Being able to draw on their own faith and recognizing the presence of God in their daily lives is something I want my children to feel. I can’t say I remember the exact moment growing up when my faith became real but attending our church and being around my family who never questioned the presence of God had a profound affect. I believe Good Shepard is playing a part in building that faith within my sons (even if they aren’t perfect during the services yet).

Our church and the pastors of our church have been with us longer than we’ve had our children, baptized both of our children who are now ages 7 and 3. They have sat in our home, visited on our porch, held our newborn babies and blessed our family in many ways. Other members of the congregation have welcomed us into the church and into their lives. As we begin the journey into a new normal after COVID isolated all of us in some manner over the past year, I look forward to being able to return more frequently in person with our family and extended GSLC family. Good Shepherd continues to be an inspiration for what a group of people can accomplish as extensions of God and his intentions and we look forward to being a part of that.
