Good Shepherd Lutheran Church / Tuesday, March 2, 2021 / Categories: Publications, Daily Devotions Daily Devotion by Heidi M. Johnson by Heidi M. Johnson At the beginning of “The Sound of Music” Maria is seen running up to the top of a grassy mountain to burst into song with joy. Moses was called to the top of Mount Sinai to talk to God and get the Ten Commandments (Exodus 19:20). Jesus went up on a mountainside by himself to pray (Matthew 14:23). I went up a mountainside to scream and cry. Psalm 121:1-2 I lift my eyes to the mountains--where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. My boyfriend had unexpectedly ended our relationship and I didn’t know how to handle the grief and anger that I felt. It was affecting everything in life, so I decided to get away and travelled to Smokey Mountain National Park in Tennessee. Once there, I found a trail to hike up a mountain. The physical exercise, the solitude, and the beauty of the scenery around me helped release the flood of emotions I was feeling--not all at once, but an on-going conversation withGod for hours. I came down that mountain feeling more peaceful and safe. We don’t have many mountains around Cincinnati, but there are some wonderful hiking trails and parks to enjoy. Find a place where you can go off by yourself and sing, read your Bible or other spiritual resource, pray, or even scream and cry if you feel the need. We can’t change what has already happened, but we can learn and grow from these experiences and move forward. God will be with you always. Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things above; not on earthly things. Colossians 3:8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Colossians 3:12-15 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as member of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Previous Article Daily Devotion Next Article Daily Devotion Print 5945 Rate this article: 5.0 3 comments on article "Daily Devotion" Dianne Imagery of the mountains is very powerful.
