(v.7) In my part of the world, spring seems to take along time coming. Long after winter holidays and bright, fresh snowfalls, the both the sky and the land appear to just be a dingy grey. It seems like days pass without sun. It is on these days that my eyes ache for green sprouts and a break in the clouds. Our passage from James we read today, speaks to the patience I need on late winter days. Later in the reading, the James also speaks of endurance. As a runner of marathons, I appreciate this encouragement as well; perhaps looking to others that have crossed the finish line as evidence that, yes, I can do that too! Whether it is due to illness, unemployment, or the fight for racial justice, we need patience and endurance to actively wait for the in-breaking of God’s healing presence. Though waiting is often difficult, the Lord will come. “[F]or the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.” (v. 11b) Faithful God, remind us that you are along side us as we await your coming. Amen.
