Devotionals

Devotionals are short essays written by GSLC members and staff that explore the ways the Holy Spirit works within our every day lives.  There are several ways we invite you to use these devotionals:

  • Make them a part of a prayer practice - read a devotion and consider the ways that Christ has worked similarly in your life or works in unexpected ways.
  • Make them a part of a journaling practice - read a devotion and journal about what the Holy Spirit is stirring in you as you reflect on the essay.
  • Use them as a reminder that God works in all things, the bad and the good.

With over 400 available devotions, you can use these daily, weekly, or monthly.  It's up to you!  We just hope that by reading these inspiring stories provided by Good Shepherd's flock you are able to better see where Jesus is present in all things!  Thank you to all of our members that have provided devotionals throughout the past couple of years!

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

Daily Devotion

Our daily devotions will take a different approach from October 19-30 as we focus on Hunger in conjunction with our NEEDS food drive.  Each day we will watch a short video from ELCA World Hunger.  Today’s video is from our own state of Ohio and the little town of Junction City.  Some in the community suffer from chronic poverty, made only worse by COVID-19.  This Lutheran Church partners with other churches in town, so that every week a community meal is offered.  Before COVID they served about 60 meals each week.  Now it is between 100-150.  They understand this struggle will be around awhile, and they are committed to be in it for the long haul.  It is hard to see your neighbors facing such challenges, but also meaningful to be able to help.

Please watch today’s video and reflect on the questions below:  Video Link

What reaction do you have to the Pastor offering to pray with those coming to receive the meals?  Have you ever offered to pray with someone who is suffering in some way?  What was that like?  Is there someone you might offer to pray with today?  In these days of COVID,  even prayers over the phone are appreciated.
