2020: FOCUS ON FAITHFULNESS

2020 - FOCUS ON FAITHFULNESS

As we turn the page on a new year, we invite you to “make this THE year” that you engage more fully in your calling as a disciple of Jesus and boldly pursue God’s will for your life. All year long we will be inviting you into adventures and times of quiet contemplation, opening yourself to the movement of the Holy Spirit, as you Share God’s Grace, Grow Your Faith and Serve Others. During the year ahead please prayerfully consider committing to the following:

  • Weekly worship
  • Daily prayer and scripture reading (VINE TIME)
  • Joyful generosity
  • Bible study or community enrichment opportunities
  • Deeper relationships with others at Good Shepherd
  • Bring God’s blessings to our community through service
  • Join Us For These Enrichment Opportunties
Good Shepherd Café

Join us for an evening of Connection and Enrichment! Starting January 15th, for 5 weeks, Wednesday Nights from 5:30-7:30 we will be gathering at Good Shepherd for a hot meal and an opportunity for families to connect and be fed.

For $4 a plate you can break bread with your family and get to know some other families connected to GSLC. We will wrap up dinner with some enrichment time for adults and kids. Kids will be invited to join other children for some games/crafts/activities and adults will get an opportunity to hear from a speaker and discuss, in small groups and large groups, topics like mindful parenting, creating traditions in our home, and how to create healthy practices that promote connectedness.

Get connected and be fed this winter at Good Shepherd Cafe on Jan 15, Jan 22, Jan 29, Feb 5, and Feb 12.

Contemplative Christian Practices

We are thrilled to be able to offer this experiential class where we will learn to go deeper in our prayer and connection to God. If you aren’t sure how to pray, or feel your prayer life is an inch deep and scattered, this is a great opportunity to learn what the early Christians knew about connecting deeply with God. This class will help you to slow down, breathe deep, and be mindful of the present moment. It is when we are quiet and still that we can hear God.

This class is being offered for FREE (typical fee is $89) at Good Shepherd on Sundays January 19 and 26 and February 9 and 23rd from 4:00-5:30 each week. You are welcome to come when you can, and to invite non-GSLC members to attend with you! FREE childcare will also be offered during each class. This class is being offered through The Hive, a place where community and contemplation meet (www.cincyhive.org), and facilitated by Renee Kanagy, a Mennonite Pastor and Spiritual Director. Come and grow in your understanding and experience of these ancient spiritual practices!

RESOURCES!

To encourage and equip you to develop the habit of daily prayer and devotional time (VINE TIME) we will have various resources available for sale (at a discounted price) in the lobby during the month of January. Available will be a Lutheran study Bible, various devotional and prayer books and a list of online daily devotional resources. Stop by and check it out. Jesus said, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” A daily time VINE TIME of prayer and awareness of God’s presence can help us stay connected to Jesus and live fruitful lives. On Sunday morning January 19 join Pastor Alice in Room 100 for ideas on growing your VINE TIME. Grab a donut at Connections Café and join us at either 9am or 10:30am for this 30 minute class.
