COVID Task Fork Update - June 10, 2021

Dear Good Shepherd Family,

It is my prayer that you are well and have a sense of God’s love and grace surrounding you in these days.  The Church Council met this week and accepted recommendations from the COVID Task Force regarding next steps in our reopening process.  Over the past 16 months we have closely watched guidelines coming from the Governor of Ohio and the CDC regarding safety and group gatherings.  Following the recent changes to those guidelines we are making these adjustments to our gathering protocols at Good Shepherd, effective immediately:

We are moving from masks required to masks optional as we gather in our building for worship and other meetings.  As vaccines have proven effective both at preventing COVID-19 illness as well as the spread of this virus, we encourage those who have not been vaccinated to get vaccinated if they are able.  In the meantime, if not vaccinated, we encourage continued use of masks in the building both to protect you and others.  At this time we will also discontinue the sign-in process when you come to our building for worship or other reasons.

As we adjust to these changes we will continue to maintain social distancing in the sanctuary and lobby, as at the present time, we have been able to maintain these protocols with little disruption to our worship life.  We hope this step will offer an extra measure of comfort to those for whom changes seem to be coming too quickly.

As a Council and Task Force, safety and care have always been our greatest concern.  Many of you have been waiting patiently for several weeks for the mask requirement to become optional.  We thank you for your understanding for the time and intentionality we took to make this change.  For others of you, this step may seem to have come quickly and you might be feeling more cautious.  Please know, if you have been vaccinated and still feel more comfortable wearing a mask, we encourage you to continue to do so.  If you are concerned being in larger groups, you may want to consider attending the Saturday 5pm or Sunday 11am services as they tend to have smaller crowds.  For those who continue to worship from home, no worries, there will be no changes made to our current online worship services as 9am and 11am will continue to be livestreamed each week.

For those registered to be a part of Vacation Bible School at the end of June, the protocols that have already been put in place for mask wearing, social distancing and outdoor activities will continue to be observed. Jen Jarman will continue to communicate those.

This has been a challenging time for all of us.  Thank you for your sustained faithfulness to our mission and to each other, even in the face of the difficult decisions we’ve needed to make along the way.  God has been with us and brought us safely to this point and we are thankful!  What a joy it has been in recent weeks to gather again for worship; to sing together; to receive the gifts of communion and grace; to support and care for each other face to face; to renew friendships and reconnect.  Let us join together in prayers of thanksgiving for these blessings and continue our faithful care for each other and a world that hungers to experience God’s love and grace.  We are God’s agents of hope.

If you have questions about these updates, please contact one of the Pastors or a member of the COVID Task Force, Hans Schwarz, Dave Dietrichson, Karen Eller, Jim Messner, Tracey Long, Chris Fitz or Pastor Heidi Johns.

Peace,

Pastor Heidi Johns
