“Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray.” — Proverbs 22:6

The road to discipleship starts at home for many of us.  Good Shepherd is committed to providing spirtual practices and faith formation resources to help children and famlies discern God's presence in their daily lives.  It is through a vareity of worship options, faith formation and fellowship events, and service opportunities that families build community and friendships and learn to share the light of God with the world.

Good Shepherd is excited to welcome Kevin Seal as our new Director of Worship & Music.  To help you get to know a little bit about him, here’s a quick bio in his own words:

Hi!  I'm Kevin Seal, and I am thrilled to be joining the Good Shepherd family as Director of Worship & Music on September 27th. In addition, my wife Elizabeth and I are excited to be moving from Tucson to Cincinnati! A little about me: I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and began both my musical and faith journeys when I was a young boy singing in church choirs. I began organ lessons in High School and have been involved in leading worship ever since, almost 25 years.

For undergrad, I attended a great Lutheran school, St. Olaf College, where I studied church music and met my wife Elizabeth, who is from New England. Being from opposite coasts, we stayed in the middle, and built a life together in Minnesota. I interrupted this life in order to pursue a Doctorate in Tucson, Arizona, where we have been for the past five years, serving Lutheran churches in the area. Elizabeth is a music and theatre teacher who has taught all ages, and is a skilled soprano. We're passionate about travelling, hiking and backpacking, and especially our two dogs, Zander and Eddie. When I'm not making music or planning liturgies, I can be found on a mountain bike, star-gazing, or cooking up something delicious in the kitchen.

What fires me up? I am a total music nerd, and I love all forms of classical music, from chamber music to opera, but I am most passionate about using music as a force for spiritual transformation and personal growth. I'm very excited about the possibilities of what music ministry can be at Good Shepherd, and I look forward to working with all of you in order to help you share your voices and talents with the community!

Special thanks to those on the Search Team:  Hans Schwarz (chair), Vernon Hartman, Steve Hoffsis, Lisa Pregent, Sharon Downing, Becky Marischen and Pastor Heidi Johns.

For a little information about the process:   We had over 30 applicants from around the world.  Top candidates were asked to provide video of their organ skills - including songs that we requested.  Initial interviews were done over Zoom with 15 candidates (Pastor Heidi and Hans Schwarz-Search Team Chair).  Pastor Heidi and Hans did second interviews with the top three candidates (including Kevin) and narrowed the field to two candidates.  Those two candidates were then interviewed via Zoom by the whole search team, who then decided to bring them both in for face-to-face interviews.

While here for face-to-face interviews, the candidates performed a short organ recital, ran a choir rehearsal, met with GSLC Pastors and program staff one-on-one, and interviewed with the search team.   After that, the Search Team unanimously voted for Kevin as our top candidate and he accepted!
