“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your

good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16

Good Shepherd is blessed to have a community that is dedicated to sharing the love of Christ with their neighbor through our active Outreach Ministry.  By earmarking 25% of our annual budget to Outreach, Good Shepherd is able to support a vareity of non-profit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Haitian Timoun Foundation, Graceworks Lutheran Services, and Adopt A Class.  In addition to providing financial support, members serve at organizations such as Matthew 25 Ministries, Tikkun Farm, and Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank to provide the labor necessary to further their missions.  It is through the generous support of our congregation that Good Shepherd is able to touch the lives of so many.

Taft Elementary - May Update

Author: Scott Puthoff/Thursday, June 3, 2021/Categories: News, Outreach News

Due to Covid restrictions we could not have our year end picnic with the Taft students, so we sent a picnic to school.  The students watched a virtual tour of the zoo made for schools, enjoyed a sack lunch picnic packed by Good Shepherd volunteers, and Pastor Alex and his puppets entertained the students virtually while teaching them about kindness and courage. Our volunteers also outdid themselves in assembling a zoo themed goodie bag packed full of activities for the students to do at home this summer.  Thank you all to all the volunteers for your efforts to provide the students with special programs, food and clothing this unusual school year.

Other Taft Updates:

Each month the food pantry at Taft has provided food to any family who has need of it.  The Shuman’s have led the food pantry this school year by taking orders, packing bags and delivering them to parents outside of the school building following the strict Covid restrictions. Some parents without means to pick up their orders had their groceries delivered by Good Shepherd folks.

The first week in May was teacher appreciation week.  Thanks to the generosity of our Good Shepherd family, each staff member received a special lunch, an insulated mug and gift card to let them know their efforts to educate the Taft students during this pandemic year were very much appreciated.
