In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. — Matthew 5:16

Good Shepherd is blessed to have a community that is dedicated to sharing the love of Christ with their neighbor through our active Outreach Ministry.  By earmarking 25% of our annual budget to Outreach, Good Shepherd is able to support a vareity of non-profit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Haitian Timoun Foundation, Graceworks Lutheran Services, and Adopt A Class.  In addition to providing financial support, members serve at organizations such as Matthew 25 Ministries, Tikkun Farm, and Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank to provide the labor necessary to further their missions.  It is through the generous support of our congregation that Good Shepherd is able to touch the lives of so many.

Taft Elementary - February 2023

Event date: 2/16/2023 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM Export event

Our volunteers met with the students in our four classes in the new library to focus on careers.  We had a discussion with the students about what we wanted to be when we were children compared with what we actually ended up doing for our careers.

Then,  Carolyn Kercsmar talked with students about the healthcare profession and Tim Zaring talked about the construction business.  Thank you Carolyn and Tim for sharing your careers with the students!  Finally, the students did a bit of product comparison with various Cheez It’s products.  It was fun to learn which product they liked best and why and then to see their surprise when they learned  whether they liked the name brand or store brand product better.

Our next visit will be February 16 from 12:00-2:00 when we will focus on kindness.  Pastor Alex will tell a story and then the students will make paper quilt squares that focus on an act of kindness.  Afterwards, the quilt will be assembled and hung in the school for all students to see.

The students will be receiving Valentines treat bags.  If you would like to donate a package of juice boxes or a bag of wrapped candies, please leave them in the Taft barrel on or before February 12.  If you have any questions or would like to volunteer please contact Sue Matz (sgmatz13@gmail.com) or Kathy Peterson (Peteramund@hotmail.com).
