Outreach

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. — Matthew 5:16

Good Shepherd is blessed to have a community that is dedicated to sharing the love of Christ with their neighbor through our active Outreach Ministry.  By earmarking 25% of our annual budget to Outreach, Good Shepherd is able to support a vareity of non-profit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Haitian Timoun Foundation, Graceworks Lutheran Services, and Adopt A Class.  In addition to providing financial support, members serve at organizations such as Matthew 25 Ministries, Tikkun Farm, and Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank to provide the labor necessary to further their missions.  It is through the generous support of our congregation that Good Shepherd is able to touch the lives of so many.

Taft Elementary

Changing the lives of area students and teachers through service at Taft Elementary.

You can support the Taft Elementary community in a variety of ways – tutoring, visiting classrooms, or being a pen pal.  Contact Sue Matz (mailto:sgmatz13@gmail.com) or Kathy Peterson (Peteramund@hotmail.com) to find out how you can help.

Good Shepherd members meet with our classrooms on a monthly basis, providing activities based on the theme of the month.  Themes can range from meditation and mindfulness, where the students practice yoga and meditation, to career day, when the students get to hear from various professionals speak about their job. During December and May, GSLC members celebrate Christmas and the end-of-school with the students.

Good Shepherd also supports the school through a variety of other ways.

Taft is a uniform school, so GSLC provides extra sets of pants, shirts, and winter coats to help those in need.  Members stock and work the Taft Elementary Food Pantry that supports school families that need extra food to make ends meet.

GSLC also provides food to support students during the times that they are not able to access school meals during winter and spring breaks.

The Taft Literacy program uses donations to the "Heidi's Hand Up" box outside the library to buy books for the students and teachers of Taft Elementary (see attached report from 2023).

If you have any questions please let Sue Matz (sgmatz13@gmail.com) or Kathy Peterson (Peteramund@hotmail.com).
