This month’s film: Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom (2019)
Ugyen is about to complete his five years of teacher training, a service requirement imposed by the government. But Ugyen does not want to teach! His hope is to become a singer and move to Australia. His grandmother encourages him to complete his service commitment first. When he is sent to a very distant mountain community, one that requires days of rugged travel, Ugyen is most discouraged. But his experiences with the residents of this special community affect him in ways that he did not expect. First time director Pawo Choyning Dorji has provided this touching and humorous film, an Academy Award nominee from the country of Bhutan.
