This month’s film: Luther (1971)

British author John Osborne’s biographical play from 1961 focuses on Martin Luther and his ongoing struggles with God and the Roman Catholic church. This production, part of a larger series of films from Ely Landau’s American Film Theater project from the1970s, features a distinguished cast led by Stacy Keach as Luther. Also appearing: Patrick Magee, Leonard Rossiter, Hugh Griffith and a new, young British actor named Judi Dench, who appears as Luther’s wife.
